I really love this quote because I truly believe that had it not been for my knee surgery I would not have found my passion for sewing.

Hi my name is Wanda Cobar, I am local fashion / costume designer from Chicago. When I was 17 years old I decided to get knee surgery for a knock knee I was born with. I laid in bed recovering bored, depressed and in pain until my mom gave me some fashion magazines to read and that is when the fashion bug bit me! I actually became obsessed with the Versace ads and the clothing he designed!

As soon as I was able to walk again I enrolled in school for fashion then took a sewing class from a wonderful teacher named Angela who I truly believe is my “Sewing Angel”. She is my inspiration behind the Halo Stitch Sewing Studio.

Now I have to tell you that when I was younger my mom used to sew all our clothes including our prom dresses and even my sister’s wedding dress. I remember my mom trying to teach us how to sew but I was never interested and as a matter of fact I actually hated when she used to drag me to the fabric store.  I do remember always looking forward to my art class in grammar school and my drafting class in high school but I never  thought that sewing would become my passion.

I love the fact that I can draw something on paper and cut it out in fabric to create different designs.

Since learning how to sew I have been able to travel to other countries, make new friends from all over the world, participate in many fashion shows including one in Paris, design dance costumes and most importantly make a living.

It truly has been a blessing!
