I was hired by a client that had moved into an apartment and asked me if I could help make their kitchen look a little nicer as they weren’t too pleased with the way it looked.
So this being my first time to do a little bit of interior decorating I accepted the challenge. With a little help from Pinterest I was able to come up with some ideas that I thought would turn their kitchen from blah to something more homey.
My first step was to figure out a color scheme. I decided to go with red, mint and black since they already had a red chair and I saw lots of cool pictures of kitchens that had that same color scheme.
Here comes the fun part.. picking out the fabrics.
I was so inspired by so many of these prints that I literally filled my cart with over 10 bolts of fabric! But in the end I really had to narrow it down to what was going to work best and how I was going to combine the colors and prints.
The first thing I started with was decorating the walls. I was inspired by this cute DIY project I saw on Pinterest that was so easy to make using kitchen utensils, dollar store frames, fabric and spray paint.
I also saw this picture of paper plates on a wall that really inspired me to create something similar that I thought would be perfect to go above the stove since there was so much wall space.
So I headed over to one of my favorite stores The Dollar Store and was able to find the perfect matching plates that went so well with my whole color scheme! The tricky part was figuring out how I was going to place the plates on the wall so I decided to pick up some foam board from there as well and I laid out the plates and glued them to the board. Since I used 2 foam boards I didn’t like the lines that were visible when i taped the 2 boards next to each other so I covered the lines with decorative tape that I bought at Michaels and also decorated the edge of the board to give it a nice framed look. I printed out a cute quote on photo paper and taped it to the board to add a personal touch.
I then made the curtains and table setting. All in all I think it turned out great and my client was very pleased!
